Private Ambulances

The majority of the UK’s ambulances are run by the NHS. However, there are a number of private ambulance firms operating around the UK. Some people may prefer to use private ambulance services because they may offer a more personal and flexible service than the NHS and insurance firms and event organisers often use private ambulance services so that they can have an ambulance on stand-by at all times.

Who uses private ambulances?

Private ambulances serve both NHS and private hospitals, as well as providing transport for individual private patients. Private ambulances are often used to transport people to clinics and hospitals and they can also be found at large sporting events and entertainment venues.

Private ambulances can be supplied with medical professionals if the client wishes. If they are simply being used for transportation medical staff will usually not be required. Most private firms can supply private ambulances at short notice and it is usually possible for clients to travel to any destination.

Some private firms also have air ambulances, as well as traditional road vehicles.

What services do private ambulance firms offer?

Different ambulance firms may offer different services but most offer a comprehensive range of services including accident and emergency services, high dependency services, event cover and patient transport.

Private firms provide trained medical staff and can usually offer a choice of vehicles.
