Ambulance Equipment

The ambulance is a sophisticated piece of equipment, which has a really impressive range of features. Nowadays, ambulances are fitted with high-spec technology, as well as multimedia communication systems.

The radio

The 2 way radio is a really important piece of kit because it enables paramedics to keep in contact with 999 operators and call-handlers and hospitals. The ambulance receives information about the next job through the radio, which helps to them to prepare and think about what kind of injuries they may have to deal with. Once the paramedics have assessed the casualty’s condition and they are on their way to hospital, they can then contact staff at the hospital and give them relevant information about the incoming patient. This is really important for patients who have very serious injuries or have become very ill suddenly, as it allows the team at accident and emergency to prepare for the patient allowing them to act as quickly as possible when the casualty arrives.

Life-saving equipment

The ambulance is kitted out with life-saving equipment and supplies, including a defibrillator, IV drips, emergency medication, oxygen tanks and masks, diagnostic equipment and a range of first aid equipment.

CCTV

Many ambulances are now fitted with CCTV for safety and security reasons. The evidence can then be used in legal cases, such as incidents involving violence against paramedics.

Tail lifts and ramps

The ambulance is designed to cater for people who are seriously ill and often people who travel in ambulances have to be stretchered into the ambulance. The tail lift and ramp enable paramedics to transport patients very smoothly and easily.

Air ambulance

In addition to standard equipment, the air ambulance also carries airway kits, both adult and paediatric ventilators, portable mentoring devices and a range of medications, including analgesics, sedatives and anaesthetics.
